Dust Control

The dust control measures at S.C. are second to none. During the dry season our Rain Bird guns spray water 180 feet in each direction, covering over 85 % of the corrals. We have a full time water truck, spraying both roads and the corrals not equipped with sprinklers.

These measures not only do wonders for controlling pink-eye, they also lower the mortality rate. Dust control plays a large roll in the overall health of the animals, and controlling dust reduces the amount of BRD (Bovine Respiratory Disease). This is major advantage over other feedlots where the summer becomes a dangerous time especially for the younger, more susceptible animals. While there is nothing we can do to control the heat, our dust control has played a major role in keeping the animals here alive and healthy during the summer months.

The dust control is only one weapon in our fight against pink-eye. While many think this bacteria is just a superficial problem, we know it’s not. Pink-eye is detrimental to gains on the animals and leaves the animal’s immune system weak and unable to combat all sorts of disease. We have been very successful in our fight against pink-eye and can guarantee there is no other commercial feed yard that can compete.
