Breeding

The first and most important part of breeding heifers properly is starting with healthy heifers, which we have covered in the feeding section. Healthy heifers have a higher conception rate than malnourished heifers.

By using both size and age we have a proven track record of sending home younger, taller springers, with less calving problems. We have years of experience breeding dairy cattle and pride ourselves in getting all the heifers pregnant that have that capability.

We have an aggressive heat detection program that gets the heifers bred quickly. Our breeders don’t “cherry pick” in order to boost their numbers. And, unlike most heifer ranches, we check the breeding heifers with our veterinarian, using all the tools available to get the heifers pregnant (i.e. cidr’s, Lutalyse, GNRH, etc.). We send home more than 90% AI bred heifers.
